Torquay's Riviera International Conference Centre sustains Green Accreditation
This week the Riviera International Conference Centre (RICC) received a prestigious Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS)
Not only did the RICC achieve Silver status for the second time but maintained its 75% rating despite the criteria being far tougher than in previous years.
The RICC's continued commitment to the scheme was clearly evident in its success in maintaining and improving business though sustainability.
Particular strengths were found in the RICC's communication of their green message to all visitors as well as their commitment to local produce, use of their own bottled water and proficient recycling of all waste types. It was apparent to the assessors that these measures were considered to have enhanced the business.
The Centre's "Green" Co-ordinator, Charles Coster said:
"The assessors came from the GTBS headquarters in Scotland to inspect every aspect of our business. They spoke to our managers and team leaders and closely inspected us to ensure all their criteria were being adhered to and had been built on over the last 3 years."
The RICC first entered the GBTS in 2006 and at that time was the first conference and leisure centre in England to achieve Silver status.
The Centre's managing director Barry Cole said:
"Sadly the GTBS criteria are such that a venue such as ours is unlikely ever to be able to achieve GOLD however we are delighted to receive such a high percentage in the SILVER category. Showing potential conference buyers and organisers how committed we are about our own corporate and environmental responsibilities has proved essential in securing future conferences to the RICC."
Ends.
